Finvasia Group Gives ‘Golden Touch’ to The World Schools Football Cup 2025

More than 1,000 young athletes from 40 schools and 20 countries came together last October in Barcelona, Spain, for The World Schools Football Cup (WSG Football), one of the most colourful and competitive youth sporting events on the global calendar. The tournament featured over 350 matches across seven age categories, including under-11 boys, under-13 boys and girls, under-15 boys and girls, under-17 boys, and under-18 girls. Every match carried the intensity and pride of professional football, as young players representing diverse continents and cultures competed not for contracts, but for pride, camaraderie, and the shared love of the game.

This year’s edition gained a new depth of meaning through the involvement of Finvasia Group, which joined as title sponsor  adding what many described as a “golden touch” to the event. The gesture was both symbolic and literal: Players of the Match across the knockout finals were honoured with 24-carat gold coins, a rare accolade that elevated the competition’s prestige and paid tribute to the timeless values of discipline, perseverance and sportsmanship.

“Gold has always represented value,” said Finvasia Group CEO and co-founder Tajinder Virk. “For us, it symbolises the worth of character; the resilience and discipline these children show every time they step onto the field. Their shine is what gives the future its glow.”

Across the Cup, Plate and Bowl divisions, 18 champions were crowned, marking another successful edition of a tournament known for its international flavour and explosive energy. The event’s grandeur  complete with live broadcasts, global delegations, and show-stopping performances by Bombastik Percussió and freestyle star Joan Freestyle  underscored the universal power of sport to unite and inspire the world’s youth.

Yet beyond medals and entertainment, Finvasia’s involvement reflected a deeper mission. As a global organisation spanning fintech, financial services, healthcare and real estate, the group’s philosophy extends well beyond business. Through the Virk family foundation, Finvasia champions education, innovation and community development, grounded in the belief that leadership begins at a young age and that companies play a vital role in shaping tomorrow’s citizens.

Scott Macfarlane, chief commercial officer of the World School Games Event Series, praised the partnership, calling it an unprecedented success. “We were absolutely delighted to partner with Finvasia for The World Schools Football Cup 2025. Their involvement helped raise the standard and the experience for every participant to new heights in what was our fifth edition of the tournament,” he said. “Sharing our mission to nurture Today’s Champions, Tomorrow’s Leaders, Finvasia were the perfect fit. It’s a fantastic example of how responsible partnerships can redefine youth sport and inspire confidence in young leaders everywhere.”

The 2025 World Schools Football Cup will be remembered not only for its champions, but for the sense of purpose that illuminated its fields  a golden reminder that when business and community work hand in hand, the future of global youth sport shines brighter.
