Minor 3.4-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Harrat Al Shaqa in Western Saudi Arabia
The Saudi Geological Survey recorded a 3.4-magnitude earthquake on Saturday in Harrat Al Shaqa, a geologically active area in northwestern Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk region. The tremor was described as mild, and authorities confirmed that no casualties or structural damage occurred.
Harrat Al Shaqa is known as one of the Kingdom’s most seismically and volcanically active zones, featuring extensive lava fields and a history of minor earthquakes. In 2009, a series of small quakes in the area prompted the evacuation of over 2,000 residents after surface fissures appeared.
While the recent tremor was minor, experts continue to monitor the region closely due to its potential for seismic activity. Residents in Harrat Al Shaqa and surrounding areas are advised to stay alert and follow safety guidelines in the event of future quakes.
