Humnava Unveils Qataghani - A Global Musical Collaboration Born in the Mountains of Hunza
Global music platform Humnava has released its third track from Season 1, Qataghani, continuing its journey of cross-cultural collaboration with a powerful new offering that blends tradition, energy, and contemporary sound.
Inspired by the spirit of the ancient Qataghan, Qataghani emerges as a high-octane composition driven by movement, rhythm, and raw collective force. Recorded against the dramatic backdrop of Passu Cones in Gojal, Hunza, the track captures the essence of the mountains through layered tribal beats and an immersive sonic landscape. It bridges ancestral resonance with a modern, post-genre approach, creating a sound that feels both deeply rooted and strikingly current.
Curated by Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan and Sherry Khattak, Qataghani brings together a diverse ensemble of artists from across the globe. The track features vocals by Bakrin Timflati, whose music reflects a life shaped by travel, landscape, and storytelling, lending the composition a raw and grounded vocal presence.
The collaborative arrangement includes contributions from Dorian Jonas Goetsh, Mujeeb Ur Rehman, Ali Habib, Ilhan Karim, Muhammad Hunaid, Blaise Merlin, and Adnan Karim. At its core lies a compelling fusion between Dorian’s electronic music instincts and a Hunzai rubab quartet, further elevated by Blaise Merlin’s experimental electric violin. Combined with chant, percussion, synth bass, and keys, the track unfolds into a rich Central Asian soundscape that echoes influences from Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and the mountainous terrains of Hunza.
Speaking about the release, Xulfi shared that Qataghani carries a force that feels instinctive and alive. He highlighted how the track naturally brings together diverse musical worlds, from the intensity of Hunzai rubabs to electronic textures and chants, creating something that feels both ancient in spirit and globally relevant.
The song holds deeper cultural roots as well, having been originally written by the late Ustad Ghulam Abbas Hassanabadi. It has been arranged and produced by Xulfi and Dorian Jonas Goetsh, mixed by Xulfi, and mastered by Mike Hinton at MSTRD Mastering in London.
Accompanying the track is a visually striking music video directed by Soheb Akhtar, with cinematography by Zain Haleem and post-production led by Mehroz Raza and Hunain Shamim. The visual narrative complements the track’s energy, capturing the grandeur of Hunza’s landscapes and the collaborative spirit behind the project.
Co-founded by Xulfi and Muhammad Ibrahim, Humnava is a global music and art initiative rooted in Pakistan. Its first season, set in Hunza, brought together more than 30 artists from countries including France, Germany, Algeria, and Zambia, fostering a creative ecosystem built on exchange, collaboration, and cultural dialogue.
With Qataghani, Humnava continues to expand its Season 1 universe, with upcoming releases including Holoyor, Sway, Lost in Love, Koi Achi Khabar, Isekta, and Darmaan. The track is now available on YouTube, Spotify, and across major broadcast platforms, offering audiences worldwide an immersive musical experience born in the mountains yet resonating far beyond them.
