BLACKPINK’s future remains uncertain as Rosé hints at boundaries, not breakups

BLACKPINK fans have been questioning the group’s future for years, but speculation intensified after the quartet wrapped up their reunion tour on January 26. Now, Rosé has addressed the growing unease, offering clarity, but not certainty.

Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast on January 28, the 28-year-old singer responded to concerns circulating within the BLINK fandom. Her words were calm, diplomatic, and deliberately open-ended.

“If one of us feels like at that time it’s not the right thing, then we’re all in; we would all understand,” Rosé said. “Like any relationship, if one person is not ready for something, then it should just be respected.”

The message was clear: no member is ever pressured to continue. If one chooses to step back, the decision is honored by all.

A group built on equal say

BLACKPINK’s four-member structure leaves little room for hierarchy, and Rosé emphasized that every voice carries equal weight.

“We would not be able to neglect anyone’s decision at any time in their life,” she explained. “And we trust that every decision made is the right decision for each person.”

She also noted that when the group renewed their contracts in 2023, the members did so with stronger boundaries and greater self-awareness, a shift shaped by years of relentless schedules and global expectations.

The question of what comes next

BLACKPINK’s upcoming EP, Deadline, is set for release on February 27. While fans are eagerly anticipating new music, questions remain about what follows.

Asked whether the group will continue performing together after the EP, Rosé repeated the same guiding principle: the group only moves forward if everyone feels ready. Her answer leaves space for both continuity and pause, a future that is intentionally undefined.

Defending the hiatus

For fans worried about another long break, Rosé defended the group’s previous three-year hiatus, calling it “such a healthy decision.”

Since debuting in 2016, BLACKPINK has worked almost nonstop. The pause allowed them, for the first time, to exist outside the group identity.

“We are also growing up right now, and we haven’t had enough time to be ourselves or explore that ever,” she said. “We weren’t really allowed that.”

During that period, all four members pursued solo projects. Rosé herself made history by becoming the first Korean solo artist to win Song of the Year at the VMAs for APT.

More than bandmates

Beyond contracts and schedules, Rosé spoke about the group’s personal bond.

“We’re best friends. We are sisters. We’re like family. We’re colleagues,” she said. “Over time, more layers have been added on to the type of relationship we have, but even more so, I think it feels more solid.”

The verdict

So, is BLACKPINK disbanding? The honest answer is that no one, possibly not even the members themselves, knows yet.

They have a new EP arriving next month and have just completed a successful reunion tour. What lies beyond that remains deliberately unresolved.

What is certain is the respect the four women have for one another, enough to step away if someone needs to, and strong enough to stay together if they all choose to. Until then, BLINKs will have to trust the process and enjoy Deadline when it arrives.
