UAE: Transfer Money in 10 Seconds Using Just a Mobile Number via ‘Aani’

Transferring money in the UAE has become faster and more convenient than ever. Thanks to the ‘Aani’ platform, launched in October 2023 by Al Etihad Payments (AEP) a subsidiary of the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE)  residents can now send money instantly using nothing more than a recipient’s mobile number. This innovation eliminates the need for traditional bank account or IBAN details, allowing for domestic transfers in under 10 seconds.

Currently supported by eight UAE-based banks and financial institutions, Aani represents a major leap forward in the UAE’s journey toward a fully cashless society. While the platform is limited to domestic transactions, it offers users a range of useful features. These include the ability to request money, split bills, and manage incoming or outgoing payment requests, such as accepting, declining, or clearing them. In addition, Aani will soon support QR code payments at retail stores, restaurants, and businesses, bringing even more convenience to everyday transactions.

It’s important to note that the maximum limit per transaction via Aani is Dh50,000, making it suitable for both everyday use and larger payments within the country. As more banks join the platform and new features roll out, Aani is set to become a key part of the UAE's digital financial ecosystem.
