Dubai's Flying Taxi Revolution Set for Takeoff in 2026

Dubai is preparing to launch its most ambitious transportation initiative yet—flying taxis—scheduled to begin commercial operations by 2026. This innovative project is poised to transform urban mobility in the emirate by introducing electric aerial vehicles capable of transporting passengers across the city within minutes.
The service will utilize eVTOL aircraft—electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles—that are designed to carry a pilot and up to four passengers. With a top speed of nearly 300 km/h and a range of 150 kilometers, these zero-emission aircraft promise a faster, quieter, and more sustainable alternative to conventional ground transportation.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has signed a six-year exclusive agreement with Joby Aviation, a California-based aerospace company, to operate the fleet of flying taxis. In parallel, Skyports Infrastructure is developing the vertiports—specially designed terminals for take-off and landing.
Four key vertiport locations have been announced: Dubai International Airport (DXB), Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Marina. These hubs will feature waiting lounges, check-in facilities, and seamless integration with Dubai’s existing public transport systems.
Authorities expect the service to dramatically cut travel times. For instance, a journey from DXB to Palm Jumeirah could take just 10 to 12 minutes by air, compared to 45 minutes by car.
The flying taxis will be bookable via a mobile application, and the initial pricing is expected to align with premium ride-hailing services such as Uber Black. Over time, costs may reduce as the service expands and adoption increases.
The RTA is working closely with the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and international regulatory bodies to ensure airspace readiness, safety standards, and traffic control measures are fully in place ahead of the 2026 launch.
Dubai is expected to become the first city in the world to offer a regulated, commercial flying taxi network, setting a new benchmark for urban air mobility. As the city continues to pursue its vision of a smarter and more sustainable future, the flying taxi project stands as a symbol of technological progress and forward-thinking urban planning.
