A Tradition of Giving: Nargis Dutt Foundation Awards Scholarships, Upholding Sunil Dutt's Belief in Education
The Nargis Dutt Foundation celebrated its enduring legacy once again on June 6, 2025, marking the birth anniversary of its revered founder, Shri Sunil Dutt, with its annual scholarship felicitation ceremony with precence of the Counselor Mr. Jassim Biljeek.
Celebrating Academic Excellence
Held on June 6, the event brought together brightest student scholars who have excelled academically in the 2024–25 session. These outstanding individuals received scholarships from the Sunil Dutt Scholarship program, which supports meritorious and economically disadvantaged students across school and higher education levels .
Keeping Sunil Dutt’s Vision Alive
Sunil Dutt was not just an iconic actor but a passionate advocate for youth empowerment—an ethos he carried forward as India’s Sports and Youth Affairs Minister . His vision continues to inspire through the Foundation's work: providing scholarships, improving rural schools, and reinforcing healthcare services across India .
A Family Tradition of Giving
Priya Dutt, Trustee of Nargis Dutt Foundation and Sunil Dutt’s daughter, addressed the gathering, emphasizing her father’s belief that “education can change lives.” She spoke of the thousands of scholarship applications received annually and the gratitude felt for each student who perseveres in the face of adversity .
From Inspiration to Impact
The Sunil Dutt Scholarship launched in 2011 initially focused on supporting girls, as a stand against gender bias and female foeticide. Since 2016, deserving boys have also benefited. What began with a handful of students has grown—over 2,000 recipients so far—many of whom now serve as doctors, engineers, Chartered Accountants, and other professionals globally .
A notable example featured during the ceremony was Noaman Assar, a top performer in Mumbai University’s Aeronautical Engineering program and now employed with VietJet. He shared how NDF’s support enabled him to pursue higher education despite the challenges posed by the pandemic .
Community and Philanthropy
The event was graced by donors and well-wishers, including Mr Khalid and Ms Zeyna Ansari as Guests of Honour. Their active involvement underscores the Foundation’s collaborative spirit.
Looking Ahead
Applications for the 2025–26 Sunil Dutt Scholarships opened in June for school students and in July for higher education seekers . Selection involves academic merit, interviews, and family background checks, reflecting a holistic approach toward empowerment.
