Language continues to evolve at lightning speed, and the Cambridge Dictionary is keeping pace. The renowned language authority has officially added 6,000 new words and expressions to its latest edition — with standout entries like ‘Skibidi’, ‘Delulu’, and ‘Broligarchy’ catching global attention.

These new entries reflect the growing influence of internet slang, social media culture, and global youth vernacular on modern English usage.

‘Delulu’: Short for "delusional", often used humorously online to describe someone dreaming unrealistically big, particularly about romance or fame.

‘Skibidi’: Popularized through viral TikTok and meme culture, associated with a surreal dance and sound trend that captivated Gen Z.

‘Broligarchy’: A fusion of “bro” and “oligarchy,” referring to a tight-knit group of male friends exerting exclusive influence or power often humorously or critically.

According to Cambridge Dictionary editors, this year’s additions emphasize how digital platforms are accelerating linguistic innovation, leading to rapid adoption of slang and hybrid words in everyday communication.

“The pace of word creation is unprecedented. From pop culture to politics, people are shaping language faster than ever before,” said a Cambridge representative.

Other new terms include tech-driven buzzwords, climate-related expressions, and evolving workplace jargon all signaling a language adapting to modern realities.

As society continues to blend entertainment, politics, identity, and technology into its everyday discourse, dictionaries are embracing the shift to stay relevant, inclusive, and reflective of the real world.
