Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health Urges Umrah Travelers to Complete Essential Vaccinations

On February 19, 2026, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Qatar issued a reminder for citizens and residents planning to travel for Umrah, particularly during the upcoming Ramadan season, to complete all required and recommended vaccinations before departure. With large crowds expected during the holy month, the ministry emphasized that preventive health measures are essential to protect pilgrims from infectious diseases.

The MoPH stated that vaccination against meningococcal meningitis is mandatory for all pilgrims, including adults and children over one year old. The vaccine must be administered at least 10 days before travel to ensure effective immunity. In addition, the seasonal influenza vaccine is strongly recommended for all travelers to reduce the risk of respiratory infections and potential complications, particularly in crowded settings.

The Ministry also urged high-risk groups to visit their registered health centers early for medical evaluation and personalized health advice. This includes senior citizens aged 65 and above, individuals with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, or respiratory conditions, as well as pregnant women and children. Early consultation helps ensure travelers are medically prepared for the journey.

These essential vaccinations are provided free of charge and are available at all health centers affiliated with the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) for registered individuals. Authorities recommend receiving vaccinations at least four to six weeks before departure to allow sufficient time for full immunity to develop.

Beyond immunization, the MoPH advises pilgrims to follow general health precautions during Umrah, including maintaining proper hygiene, wearing masks in crowded areas, staying hydrated, and avoiding close contact with individuals who show signs of illness.

The advisory underscores Qatar’s commitment to public health and aims to ensure that pilgrims can perform their religious duties safely during Ramadan.
