Saudi Arabia Launches Digital Vehicle Plate Wallet Services on Absher
Riyadh- In a major step toward digital transformation, Saudi Arabia has launched new digital vehicle plate wallet services through the Ministry of Interior’s electronic platform, Absher.
The initiative was officially launched on Tuesday by Lt. Gen. Mohammed Al-Bassami, Director General of Public Security, during a ceremony held under the patronage of Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif at the Public Security headquarters in Riyadh.
The newly introduced services allow users to create a digital plate wallet, add plates from existing or decommissioned vehicles, register plates from the wallet to vehicles, and remove or assign plates when transferring or decommissioning them. Users can also add plates purchased through the electronic plate auction to their wallet.
These digital plate services are available exclusively for plates registered under the wallet owner’s vehicles or for plates won via the electronic plate auction organized by the General Department of Traffic.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to advance digital governance and enhance e-service accessibility. The goal is to streamline vehicle-related procedures, minimize the need for in-person visits to ministry offices, and improve satisfaction among citizens, residents, and visitors through faster, automated digital solutions.
The launch underscores the Kingdom’s broader Vision 2030 objectives leveraging technology to modernize public services and strengthen the nation’s digital infrastructure.
