Bahrain: New Bridge to Cut Manama–Diyar Al Muharraq Travel Time by 20 Minutes

Municipal sources have confirmed that the trial opening of the new link bridge connecting Shaikh Isa bin Salman Bridge to Road 105 in Busaiteen is expected later this week, coinciding with the end of the year and the beginning of the New Year. The move comes as construction work on the project has accelerated significantly in recent weeks to ensure readiness within the planned timeframe.

The bridge is regarded as a major traffic infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity between Manama and Muharraq, while improving traffic flow across several key areas including Busaiteen, Sayah, Dair, Samaheej, and extending towards Diyar Al Muharraq and surrounding districts. By providing a new direct route, the project is expected to ease congestion and improve daily commuting conditions.

The project consists of a two-lane bridge in each direction, allowing uninterrupted traffic movement between Shaikh Isa bin Salman Bridge and Road 105. This design is set to reduce pressure on the heavily congested Shaikh Isa bin Salman Bridge–Al Ghoos Road junction and help streamline vehicle movement during peak hours.

According to estimates, the bridge could cut travel time between Manama and Diyar Al Muharraq by up to 20 minutes during peak periods. It will also divert part of the traffic coming from the Muharraq Ring Road toward Muharraq city, contributing to improved traffic distribution across the wider road network.

Municipal sources added that the project was completed in record time due to close coordination among several government entities, including the General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior, the Electricity and Water Authority, and other service bodies. While the trial opening is imminent, the bridge is expected to be officially completed in 2025.
