Bahrain’s Economy Expands More Than Fivefold Since 2000

Bahrain’s economy has recorded remarkable long-term growth, expanding more than fivefold since the year 2000 and underscoring the Kingdom’s steady progress across both productive and service sectors. Official figures show that gross domestic product increased from approximately $9 billion in 2000 to more than $47 billion by the end of 2024, reflecting sustained economic momentum and structural development.

This achievement was highlighted by Her Excellency Maryam Al Ansari, Undersecretary for National Economy at the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, who described the growth as a key national milestone within Bahrain’s broader development journey. She attributed the progress to the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

H.E. Al Ansari also pointed to tangible improvements in living standards, noting that average monthly wages for Bahraini citizens in both the public and private sectors nearly doubled between 2005 and 2024. She emphasised that this progress reflects policies focused on empowering Bahrainis, enhancing their competitiveness, and prioritising them in employment and entrepreneurship.

Looking ahead, Al Ansari stressed that continued cooperation between the public and private sectors will remain central to strengthening the national economy on sustainable foundations, stimulating economic activity, and ensuring that growth translates into higher incomes and broader development opportunities for citizens.
