His Majesty King Hamad Joins Bahrain Sports Day Marine Festivities

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa took part in marine sports activities on 12 February 2026 in celebration of Bahrain Sports Day, reinforcing the Kingdom’s commitment to health, heritage, and national unity. The annual initiative encourages citizens and residents to adopt physical activity as part of a sustainable daily lifestyle while celebrating Bahrain’s cultural identity.

His Majesty joined youth and members of the public in sea-based sports, highlighting the deep-rooted maritime traditions of the Kingdom. Marine activities have long been a cherished part of Bahraini life, reflecting the nation’s historic relationship with the sea. By participating directly, the King underscored the importance of belonging, national pride, and leading by example in promoting physical wellbeing across society.

During the event, His Majesty emphasised that Bahrain’s archipelago is rich in marine resources, including pearls and fish stocks, which have historically supported the national economy and continue to contribute to sustainable livelihoods. He noted that preserving maritime heritage while promoting active lifestyles strengthens both economic vision and cultural identity.

The Cabinet designated Bahrain Sports Day as a half-working day for all government entities, enabling broad participation in sporting activities across the country. Communities came together in parks, waterfronts, and public spaces to take part in organised fitness sessions, competitions, and family-oriented events.

At Bahrain Bay, the waterfront transformed into a vibrant sporting arena featuring more than 30 activities. Fitness sessions, youth games, and dedicated family zones created an inclusive environment encouraging participation from all age groups.

The focus on sea sports reflects Bahrain’s enduring maritime culture, closely aligned with events such as the Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Season, which features traditional rowing, fishing competitions, and open-water swimming. These activities preserve customs passed down through generations while engaging modern audiences.

Educational and cultural initiatives also formed part of the wider celebration. Residents were encouraged to explore landmarks like the Pearling Path in Muharraq, a UNESCO-recognised heritage site that tells the story of Bahrain’s historic pearl diving industry — a pillar of national identity highlighted by His Majesty during the festivities.

Bahrain Sports Day once again demonstrated the Kingdom’s dedication to promoting public health, strengthening community ties, and honouring its maritime heritage. Through active participation and national engagement, the event reinforced the values of unity, pride, and wellbeing that define Bahrain’s forward-looking vision.
