Bahrain Reduces Electricity Tariffs for Citizens’ First Homes Following Cabinet Approval
Bahraini citizens residing in their first homes will benefit from reduced electricity tariffs following a decision approved by the Cabinet, His Excellency Mr Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, has announced.
The decision was taken after the Cabinet, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, reviewed recommendations and views submitted by members of the House of Representatives. The move reflects ongoing cooperation between the executive and legislative authorities to address citizens’ needs.
Under the revised structure, the electricity tariff for consumption ranging between 5,000 and 7,000 units has been reduced to 16 fils per unit, down from the previous rate of 32 fils per unit, effectively halving the cost for eligible households.
Minister Humaidan noted that parliamentary feedback played a central role in shaping the amendment, highlighting the importance of constructive dialogue in developing policies that directly impact citizens’ daily lives.
He added that the revised tariff strikes a balance between easing the financial burden on households and ensuring the efficient, sustainable delivery of electricity and water services across the Kingdom.
The updated electricity rates will be applied to bills issued from January 1, benefiting Bahraini citizens living in their first residence.
