Abu Dhabi to Enforce New Truck Ban on Key Roads Starting December 1

Abu Dhabi is set to impose new truck movement restrictions on several key routes from December 1, 2025, marking a significant step in the emirate’s ongoing efforts to streamline mobility and reduce road congestion. The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), under the Department of Municipalities and Transport, confirmed that heavy vehicles will be banned from Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road (E11) and Al Raha Beach Road (E10), two corridors that handle some of the highest traffic volumes in the capital.

The ITC explained that the measures are part of a comprehensive strategy to regulate traffic on roads that regularly experience high truck density. The restrictions are expected to reduce accident risks, enhance mobility, and increase the overall efficiency of Abu Dhabi’s transport network, which supports major residential, commercial and industrial hubs.

Further limitations will apply during peak hours on Al Rawdah Road (E30) in the Musaffah Industrial Area. Heavy-vehicle movement will be prohibited between the Bridges Complex and the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road (E11) junction during morning and evening rush periods. To maintain the smooth flow of commercial and goods transport, trucks will be redirected via the ICAD Bridge, an alternative route designed to minimise interaction with light vehicles.

To support the implementation of the new rules, ITC has designated Al Fayah – Seih Shuaib Road (E75) and Al Haffar Road as alternative truck routes. Both corridors have been prepared to handle heavy-vehicle traffic safely without adding pressure to city roads or disrupting business operations.

Abdulla Hamad AlEryani, Acting Executive Director of the Planning and Strategic Affairs Sector at ITC, said the decision reflects the organisation’s commitment to improving Abu Dhabi’s road network and upholding the highest international standards of traffic safety. He emphasised that the initiative aligns with the goals of Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, which aims to build a sustainable, integrated, and future-ready transport system that supports economic growth.

AlEryani added that the ITC continues to implement targeted projects designed to enhance traffic flow and promote a safer, more environmentally friendly mobility ecosystem. The new truck restrictions form part of a balanced approach that supports both public safety and commercial transport needs.

The ITC has urged all heavy-vehicle drivers and transport operators to follow the new regulations and posted signage across affected routes, highlighting the importance of cooperation for a smooth transition and improved road safety across the emirate.
