Lawmakers urge extension of Muharraq Nights following festival success
Members of Parliament in Bahrain have proposed extending the popular Muharraq Nights festival following its overwhelming public response and strong turnout, citing its cultural, social, and economic impact.
The proposal comes after the event attracted large crowds, transforming historic areas of Muharraq into vibrant hubs of activity featuring traditional performances, food stalls, handicrafts, and family-friendly entertainment. MPs said the festival not only boosted domestic tourism but also supported small businesses and local artisans.
Lawmakers noted that Muharraq Nights successfully showcased Bahrain’s cultural heritage while creating new opportunities for youth participation and entrepreneurship. They added that extending the event’s duration would allow more visitors to attend and further enhance its benefits for the local economy.
Several MPs stressed that the festival helped revitalize heritage sites and encouraged community engagement, aligning with national efforts to preserve Bahraini identity while promoting cultural tourism. They also highlighted positive feedback from residents and visitors alike.
The proposal urges relevant authorities to study the feasibility of extending Muharraq Nights or increasing the number of similar cultural events throughout the year. MPs believe this would strengthen Bahrain’s events calendar and reinforce Muharraq’s status as a key cultural destination.
Officials are expected to review the recommendation as part of broader discussions on expanding cultural initiatives and maximizing their long-term impact.
