Vidyut Jammwal to make Hollywood debut as Dhalsim in Street Fighter reboot
Action star Vidyut Jammwal is set to make his Hollywood debut in the live-action reboot of the legendary gaming franchise Street Fighter, scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16, 2026.
Vidyut will portray Dhalsim, the iconic Indian yogi revered by fans for his spiritual discipline, fire-breathing abilities, and elastic combat style. The casting marks a landmark moment for Indian representation in global video game adaptations.
Producers reportedly selected Vidyut for his real-life mastery of Kalaripayattu, one of the world’s oldest martial arts, which closely aligns with Dhalsim’s physical philosophy and mystical persona. His athleticism and spiritual grounding were seen as a natural fit for the character.
The actor’s first-look poster, unveiled at the 2025 Game Awards, sparked major international buzz. The reveal showcased Vidyut in a dramatic transformation, featuring a shaved head, red tilak, traditional prayer beads, and a powerful ascetic presence that stayed true to the character’s roots.
The film is directed by Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip) and produced by Legendary Entertainment in collaboration with Capcom. Principal photography began in Australia in August 2025 and wrapped in November 2025.
Set in 1993, the film follows Ryu and Ken Masters as they are recruited by Chun-Li to participate in the World Warrior Tournament, which conceals a dangerous global conspiracy at its core.
Vidyut joins an expansive, star-studded international cast that includes Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, and David Dastmalchian as M. Bison.
With its ambitious scale, authentic casting, and global ensemble, Street Fighter is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated video game adaptations in recent years and a defining international milestone in Vidyut Jammwal’s career.
