Qatar Suspends Maritime Navigation in Doha Waters for National Day Celebrations
Qatar has announced a temporary suspension of maritime navigation and vessel leasing in parts of Doha as part of national safety measures linked to Qatar National Day celebrations, the Ministry of Transport confirmed on Monday.
In an official statement, the ministry instructed all maritime vessel owners and operators both individuals and companies to halt navigation and leasing activities for pleasure crafts, tourism boats, fishing vessels, jet skis and similar watercraft within designated waters of the capital.
The suspension applies to the coastal stretch between Hamad International Airport and the Sheraton Doha Hotel, an area expected to host key National Day events and attract large public gatherings along Doha’s waterfront.
According to the ministry, the directive will take effect at 6:00 am on Tuesday, December 16, and remain in force until 8:00 am on Friday, December 19, 2025. The temporary ban is intended to enhance public safety and security during the celebrations, which traditionally include parades, official ceremonies and large-scale festivities.
The Ministry of Transport urged all concerned parties to comply fully with the circular and cooperate with relevant authorities to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of National Day events. It noted that the suspension forms part of broader national measures designed to protect participants and visitors while maintaining order throughout the celebration period.
Qatar National Day, observed annually on December 18, commemorates the country’s unification and founding. The occasion is marked by cultural performances, national parades and public celebrations across Doha and other parts of the country.
The ministry did not announce any exemptions to the suspension and advised all vessel owners and operators to adhere strictly to the specified timeframe and geographic boundaries.
