Qatar has postponed the first edition of the Arabian Gulf Minifootball Cup, which was scheduled to take place in Doha from April 1 to 5, citing the current regional situation.
The organizing committee said the decision was made to ensure the tournament can be held under the right organizational and logistical conditions, allowing teams and supporters to participate in a safe and stable environment.
Mohammed Mubarak Al Mohannadi, Director-General of the organizing committee, said the postponement was taken as a precautionary measure following recent developments in the region. He emphasized that the safety and well-being of participating delegations remain the foremost priority.
He added that organizers are working closely with relevant authorities and the International Minifootball Federation to determine a new date for the tournament. The revised schedule will be announced once conditions become more stable.
The event was expected to mark the first regional gathering of Gulf national minifootball teams and was seen as an important step toward strengthening sporting ties across the region.
Organizers had hoped the tournament would also help expand the popularity of minifootball, a fast-growing format of the sport played on smaller pitches with fewer players, across Gulf countries. Despite the postponement, officials said the long-term goal remains to promote the sport and create more opportunities for regional competition once circumstances allow.
