Dubai: Jewellery stores across Dubai and other emirates witnessed a festive shopping frenzy as residents turned out in large numbers to purchase gold on the occasion of Dhanteras and Diwali. Marking the beginning of the Diwali festivities, Dhanteras is traditionally considered one of the most auspicious days to buy gold and precious metals a belief that drew thousands to gold retailers throughout the city.
Dubai’s iconic Gold Souq was particularly abuzz, with long queues of eager shoppers exploring a wide range of intricate jewellery designs. Residents took advantage of a slight dip in gold prices, attractive festive promotions, and extended store hours offered by retailers to accommodate the rush. Many buyers were seen comparing designs, investing in gold coins, and purchasing ornaments for both religious and gifting purposes.
Retailers reported a sharp spike in foot traffic and sales, with some jewellers noting this as one of the busiest Dhanteras weekends in recent years. The combination of cultural significance, market trends, and Dubai’s reputation as a global gold trading hub created a perfect storm for festive shopping.
As Diwali approaches, the momentum is expected to continue, with more residents opting for last-minute purchases, especially as many stores continue to offer limited-time discounts and zero making charges on select items.
