Bahrain announces public holidays calendar for 2026

Bahrain has officially outlined its list of public holidays for 2026, providing residents and businesses with early clarity for planning work schedules, travel, and major events throughout the year.

The calendar includes a mix of national observances and Islamic holidays. Authorities have reiterated that all Islamic holidays are based on the lunar calendar and remain subject to official confirmation, as dates may shift depending on moon sighting.

The year begins with New Year’s Day on Thursday, January 1, followed by Eid Al Fitr, expected to fall from Friday, March 20 to Sunday, March 22, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Labor Day will be observed on Friday, May 1. This is followed by Arafat Day on Tuesday, May 26, and Eid Al Adha from Wednesday, May 27 to Friday, May 29.

Islamic New Year (Al Hijra) is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, while Ashura, commemorating the 9th and 10th of Muharram, is expected to be observed on Thursday and Friday, June 25 and 26.

Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (Mawlid) is anticipated on Tuesday, August 25.

The year concludes with Bahrain’s National Day on Wednesday, December 16, followed by Accession Day on Thursday, December 17, extending national celebrations across two consecutive days.

Officials have advised the public to stay updated through official announcements, particularly for Islamic holidays, as final dates will be confirmed closer to the time.
