Bahrain Police Urge Parents to Monitor Pre-Teens' Online Activity for Safety

Monitoring Pre-Teens’ Online Activities ‘Crucial for Safety’ – Bahrain Police Official Warns

Bahrain | Friday, 5 September 2025 – Pre-teens should not be allowed to open social media accounts, a top Bahraini police official has said, underscoring the critical role of parental supervision in safeguarding children online.

Colonel Dr. Osama Bahar, head of the Hidd Police Station, stressed the growing threats children face in the digital world, including exposure to online predators, cyberbullying, and harmful content. He urged parents to take an active and vigilant role in their children’s digital lives.

“Children under the age of 13 are especially vulnerable and should not be using social media platforms. Parental monitoring is crucial to ensure their safety,” said Dr. Bahar.

He also appealed to families to encourage healthier offline alternatives, such as reading, sports, crafts, and other engaging hobbies that promote creativity and personal development.

The colonel’s comments reflect a broader push across Bahrain and the region to educate communities on digital safety and responsible technology use, particularly among younger age groups.

Authorities continue to emphasize that online safety begins at home, and that a proactive approach by parents can make a significant difference in protecting children from digital threats.
