Abu Dhabi plans rollout of electric seagliders to boost coastal mobility by 2028

Abu Dhabi residents could soon be travelling across the emirate aboard Seagliders, fully electric, high-speed vessels designed to skim just above the sea, significantly reducing travel times while producing zero emissions.

Under a new agreement signed between the Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), Abu Dhabi Mobility, and VERSA Advanced Maritime Services, Seaglider operations are expected to begin by 2028.

Initial routes are planned to connect Abu Dhabi City with Al Dhafra, with services set to expand across the emirate and potentially beyond in later phases.

Seagliders are designed to offer a clean, fast, and sustainable mode of transport, combining maritime travel with advanced electric propulsion technology. The initiative supports Abu Dhabi’s broader vision to develop smarter and greener mobility solutions across land, air, and sea, while enhancing coastal connectivity and reducing environmental impact.
