Iran says mediation possible only with ceasefire and guarantees against future attacks

Fatemeh Mohajerani said on Tuesday that any mediation to end the ongoing conflict must come with clear conditions, including a ceasefire and guarantees that future attacks will not occur.

Speaking at a press conference at Gandhi Hospital in Tehran, Mohajerani stated that mediation efforts would only be acceptable if they ensure a complete halt to hostilities. According to Anadolu Agency, the spokesperson said mediation must take place “in a condition where there is not only a ceasefire but also a complete halt to attacks and an assurance that this will not happen again."

She added that the Iranian public is demanding firm guarantees that such attacks will not be repeated, highlighting the importance of long-term security assurances as part of any diplomatic solution. “We did not start the war, but we will finish it,” Mohajerani said during the briefing.

Her remarks come amid heightened tensions involving Iran and regional adversaries, with ongoing military exchanges raising concerns about wider instability in the Middle East. Officials in Tehran have repeatedly stated that while Iran remains open to diplomatic solutions, any negotiations must ensure lasting security and prevent future escalations.
