Vivek Oberoi Says Future Generations May Forget Shah Rukh Khan: ‘Kaun Shah Rukh Khan?’
Actor Vivek Oberoi has sparked debate online after sharing his views on the fleeting nature of fame, suggesting that even global icons like Shah Rukh Khan might not be remembered by future generations. Speaking to Pinkvilla, Vivek reflected on how history often consigns even the greatest stars to “nothingness,” questioning whether the name Shah Rukh Khan will hold significance by the year 2050.
Vivek remarked, “Which film, starring whom from the 1960s, do you ask anyone about today nobody cares. You will inevitably be relegated to history. In 2050, people might say, ‘Kaun Shah Rukh Khan?’” His comments come despite Shah Rukh Khan being considered one of the world’s biggest movie stars, known for iconic performances in hits like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and praised for his longevity and reinvention.
The superstar, who turned 60 earlier this month, recently celebrated his milestone birthday with fans in Mumbai. In September, Shah Rukh received his first National Award for Best Actor for his role in Atlee’s mega-hit Jawan. He is next set to appear in the film King.
Vivek expanded on his perspective by referencing legendary filmmaker-actor Raj Kapoor, saying, “Just as people today might ask, ‘Who is Raj Kapoor?’ You and I may call him the god of cinema, but if you ask any youngster who is a fan of Ranbir Kapoor, they might not even know who Raj Kapoor was.” He suggested that despite their achievements, most stars eventually fade from public memory as new generations emerge.
On the professional front, Vivek Oberoi is gearing up for the release of Mastii 4, along with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, featuring Prabhas, Tripti Dimri, and Prakash Raj. The film’s audio teaser was recently unveiled on Prabhas’ birthday, further building anticipation.
