UAE thwarts large-scale Iranian missile and drone assault as interceptions surge
The United Arab Emirates confirmed that its air defense systems successfully intercepted 16 ballistic missiles and 42 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from Iran on Sunday, March 29, 2026, marking one of the latest escalations in the ongoing regional conflict.
According to official figures, since the start of what authorities described as “blatant Iranian attacks,” UAE air defenses have neutralized a total of 414 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles, and 1,914 UAVs. The scale of these interceptions highlights the intensity and continuation of the aerial threats targeting the country.
Despite the effectiveness of the defense systems, the attacks have resulted in casualties. Two members of the UAE Armed Forces lost their lives while carrying out their national duty. In addition, a Moroccan civilian working under contract with the Armed Forces was also killed.
The strikes have also claimed the lives of eight foreign nationals from multiple countries, including Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Palestine, and India, underscoring the wide-reaching human impact of the conflict.
Authorities further reported that 178 individuals were injured in the attacks. The injuries ranged from minor to severe, placing additional strain on emergency and healthcare services. Those affected represent a diverse group of nationalities, including citizens from the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan, Palestine, Ghana, Indonesia, Sweden, and Tunisia.
Officials reiterated that the UAE’s air defense systems continue to operate at a high level of readiness, successfully mitigating a significant portion of incoming threats. At the same time, authorities stressed the importance of vigilance and adherence to safety guidelines for residents.
