UAE Renews Strict Warnings on School Zone Traffic Violations

August 25, 2025 – United Arab Emirates

As schools across the UAE reopen for the new academic year, authorities have issued renewed warnings against traffic violations in school zones, emphasizing student safety as a top priority.

The Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with local police departments, has called on all motorists to adhere strictly to traffic laws, particularly around school buses and pedestrian crossings. Motorists caught ignoring school bus stop signs or speeding in school zones face hefty fines, black points, and even vehicle impoundment under UAE traffic regulations.

Key Reminders for Drivers:

  • Stop completely when school buses extend their stop signs.

  • Maintain a reduced speed near school areas and pedestrian crossings.

  • Avoid overtaking in school zones, especially during drop-off and pick-up hours.

  • Stay alert for crossing children and school staff directing traffic.

Authorities also emphasized the importance of community cooperation in reporting reckless driving around educational institutions, encouraging both parents and staff to be proactive.

A Nationwide Safety Initiative

This campaign is part of a broader initiative to eliminate accidents involving schoolchildren and raise awareness among residents and expatriates alike. Educational signage, patrols, and radar systems have been increased near schools.

Know the Penalties:

Violating school bus stop signs:

  • Fine: AED 1,000

  • Black Points: 10

  • Vehicle Impoundment: Up to 30 days

Officials urged all road users to remain cautious and courteous, especially during peak school hours, noting that every child’s safety is a shared responsibility.
