Abdullah bin Zayed Establishes National Identity Committee-
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council, has issued a decision to establish the UAE’s National Identity Committee. The move marks a significant step in activating the National Identity Strategy developed during the UAE Government Annual Meetings 2025.
The newly formed Committee will be chaired by Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice-Chairperson of the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council. It will operate under the Council’s umbrella, serving as the central authority for coordinating national identity initiatives across the country.
Unified National Framework-
The Committee’s primary mandate is to oversee the implementation of the National Identity Strategy and align federal and local efforts within a unified framework. By acting as a central reference point, it aims to ensure coordination, integration, and the avoidance of duplication across various initiatives.
Among its key responsibilities, the Committee will define the pillars and core values of the UAE’s national identity, establish a comprehensive national reference framework, and develop initiatives in collaboration with relevant entities. It will also introduce a national index to measure community engagement and pride in national identity, providing data-driven insights to guide future policies.
Additionally, the Committee will oversee unified communication strategies across media platforms, ensuring consistent messaging that reinforces the country’s cultural values and social cohesion.
High-Level Representation-
The Committee comprises senior officials from key government entities, including the Ministry of Culture, National Media Authority, Presidential Office, Ministry of Economy and Tourism, Ministry of State for Youth Affairs, and the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, among others.
The National Projects Office at the Presidential Court will serve as the Committee’s secretariat, offering administrative and strategic support to facilitate effective implementation.
Advancing the National Vision-
The establishment of the National Identity Committee reflects the UAE’s continued commitment to strengthening national cohesion and cultural identity. By consolidating efforts under a structured framework, the initiative aims to enhance community engagement, preserve national values, and reinforce pride in the country’s heritage and achievements.
Operating under the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council, the Committee is expected to play a central role in shaping policies that support long-term social and cultural development across the UAE.
