UAE enters coldest phase of winter as 26-day Shabat season begins

The UAE has entered the coldest phase of its winter season with the onset of the 26-day Shabat season, which will continue until February 10, according to weather reports.

Meteorologists expect a sharp drop in temperatures, particularly between January 12 and January 25, marking the peak of winter chill across the country. Inland areas are forecast to record early-morning temperatures below 8°C, with some regions potentially dipping below 5°C during the coldest days.

The colder conditions are being driven by Arctic and Siberian air masses, intensified by northerly winds sweeping across the region. These weather patterns may also lead to fog and mist formation, especially during early morning hours, affecting visibility on roads and highways.

Sea conditions are expected to remain cooler than usual, while residents are advised to take precautions during early-morning and late-night hours, particularly in open and desert areas.

The Shabat season traditionally marks the peak of winter cold in the UAE. Weather conditions are expected to gradually moderate toward February, bringing more stable temperatures as winter transitions into early spring.
