Saudi Arabia Ranks Second Among G20 with 32% Growth in Maritime Transport Fleet
Saudi Arabia has achieved a major milestone in the maritime transport sector, recording a 32 per cent growth in its fleet during 2025 compared to the previous year. This strong performance has placed the Kingdom second globally among G20 countries in terms of the highest growth rates in maritime transport.
The rapid expansion reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to develop and modernise its maritime sector through a combination of regulatory reforms, operational initiatives and strategic investments. Authorities have focused on upgrading legislative frameworks, improving fleet efficiency and enabling a business-friendly environment to support sustainable sector growth.
Earlier progress was also evident at the beginning of 2024, when the Kingdom recorded a 6.4 per cent growth rate compared to 2023, demonstrating steady year-on-year advancement in maritime transport capacity and performance.
The Transport General Authority (TGA) said the achievement aligns closely with the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which seeks to position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub. The strategy also aims to strengthen the maritime sector’s role in supporting supply chains, boosting the national economy and enhancing the efficiency of international trade through Saudi ports.
According to the TGA, the results highlight the Kingdom’s commitment to developing its maritime transport system in line with international best practices. This approach supports long-term sustainability while reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s strategic standing among the world’s leading maritime nations.
