Saudi Arabia Offers SR50,000 Reward for Reporting Cybercrime Violations
In a significant step toward strengthening digital security, Saudi Arabia has launched a new incentive program offering rewards of up to SR50,000 for individuals who report verified cybersecurity violations. The initiative, introduced by the National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA), aims to encourage public participation in safeguarding the Kingdom’s digital infrastructure.
Reward Details and Eligibility
Under the new scheme, whistleblowers whose reports lead to a final ruling or confirmed violation can receive a reward of up to SR50,000, or 1% of the fine collected, whichever is lower.
A three-member committee will review each reported case to verify its validity, determine eligibility, and set compensation amounts based on the official regulations.
The NCA clarified that the rewards apply to a range of cybersecurity offenses, including:
-
Conducting cybersecurity activities without a license or in violation of licensing terms.
-
Non-compliance with national cybersecurity standards and policies.
-
Falsifying or withholding information requested by the authority.
-
Trading or offering cybersecurity tools or services that are unauthorized or fail to meet official requirements.
-
Obstructing or preventing inspectors from performing their duties.
Conditions and Exclusions
According to the draft regulation published on the NCA’s consultation platform, rewards will only be issued once a violation is legally confirmed, either through a court ruling or after the appeal period has ended.
However, the regulation specifies that not all informants qualify for compensation. Excluded categories include:
-
NCA employees and their spouses, in-laws, and close relatives.
-
Public employees if reporting violations falls within their official duties.
-
Cases already reported or previously rewarded.
Additionally, whistleblowers must pledge not to disclose any information related to their report, ensuring the confidentiality of the process.
A Move Toward Stronger Cyber Accountability
The initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s increasing commitment to cybersecurity accountability and aligns with the Kingdom’s broader efforts to become a regional leader in digital governance and cyber resilience.
By encouraging responsible reporting and community vigilance, the program reinforces Saudi Arabia’s vision of creating a secure, transparent, and resilient digital ecosystem that supports its national transformation goals under Vision 2030.
