Amazon Opens First Fulfilment Centre in Abu Dhabi to Boost UAE’s Digital Economy

Amazon has officially launched its first fulfillment center in Abu Dhabi, developed in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), marking a significant step in expanding the company’s logistics network and supporting the emirate’s ambitions to strengthen its digital economy.

The new facility can handle up to eight million units across more than 30 categories, ranging from groceries and beauty products to home goods and electronics. Nearly half of the centre is dedicated to small and medium-sized businesses that use Fulfilled by Amazon, giving local sellers improved access to the company’s global e-commerce infrastructure.

With advanced systems in place, the center allows faster delivery options, including same-day delivery on a wider selection of products across the UAE. It also houses an Innovation Lab featuring 3D printing, ergonomic tools, and advanced testing processes, which are already helping cut lead times by more than half across hundreds of packaging and product trials.

Sustainability is also a core part of the project, with Amazon integrating analytics-driven processes to reduce consumption and improve efficiency. Abu Dhabi Customs has played a role in enabling the center’s operations by providing digital platforms, AI-powered services, and streamlined clearance, further positioning the emirate as a leader in trade facilitation.

Officials from ADIO highlighted that the facility not only strengthens the e-commerce and logistics ecosystem in Abu Dhabi but also creates fresh opportunities for SMEs while advancing sectors such as retail, wholesale trade, and ICT. By combining cutting-edge technology with infrastructure designed for scale, the fulfillment center underscores Abu Dhabi’s broader vision to become a regional and global hub for smart trade and innovation.
