Louvre Museum Closes After Bold Daylight Robbery

Paris, France, October 19, 2025: The Louvre Museum, the most visited museum in the world, was unexpectedly closed to the public today following a robbery that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.
France’s Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, confirmed the incident, stating that the robbery took place as the museum was opening its doors to visitors. “No injuries were reported. I am on site alongside museum staff and the police. Investigations are ongoing,” Dati posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Authorities have not yet disclosed what, if anything, was stolen from the museum’s vast collection, which includes priceless works such as the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. The Louvre’s security systems and protocols are among the most advanced in the world, raising serious questions about how the perpetrators managed to breach them.
Museum officials have assured the public that all efforts are being made to assess the situation and recover any stolen artifacts. The closure is expected to remain in effect until further notice, pending the outcome of the investigation.
