NEW YORK: The 53rd International Emmy Awards saw the United Kingdom dominate the ceremony, winning multiple top categories and showcasing the strength of British television on the global stage. Leading the pack, ITV Studios’ 1980s-set dramedy Rivals claimed the Best Drama award. Featuring an ensemble cast including David Tennant, Aidan Turner, Katherine Parkinson, Victoria Smurfit, Alex Hassell, Nafessa Williams, Bella Maclean, Emily Atack, and Danny Dyer, the series is based on Jilly Cooper’s beloved novels and combines wit, intrigue, and family drama.
The UK also secured the Best Comedy award for Ludwig, starring David Mitchell as a puzzle master who impersonates his missing detective brother to solve a complex case. Anna Maxwell Martin, also part of Ludwig, added to her accolades by winning Best Performance by an Actress for her role in Until I Kill You.
British productions continued their winning streak across other categories. Lost Boys and Fairies took Best TV Movie/Mini-Series, while Fallen earned Best Kids Live-Action Show, and Hell Jumper won Best Documentary. In the Current Affairs category, the UK claimed victory with Dispatch: Kill Zone: Inside Gaza, underlining its global relevance in factual storytelling.
