Gulf Air operating special repatriation flights as Bahrain airspace remains closed

Gulf Air has confirmed that it is operating a limited number of special repatriation flights to help Bahraini citizens and residents stranded abroad return home, as the Kingdom’s airspace remains closed due to regional security developments.

The airline clarified that these flights are not a resumption of regular commercial operations but are specifically arranged to facilitate the return of passengers affected by ongoing disruptions.

Airspace closure and flight suspensions

Authorities have kept the airspace over Bahrain closed following escalating regional tensions linked to strikes involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. As a result, all standard scheduled flights to and from Bahrain International Airport remain suspended until further notice.

To maintain critical international connections, some limited services have been diverted or temporarily operated from King Fahd International Airport, allowing essential travel routes to remain accessible.

Gulf Air said its next operational update is scheduled for 11:00 BHT (08:00 UTC) on March 10, 2026, when further information about flight operations will be shared.

Passenger support measures

To assist travelers impacted by the disruptions, the airline has introduced several flexibility measures:

  • Free rebooking: Passengers with original travel dates up to March 10, 2026, can rebook on Gulf Air-operated flights without additional fees for travel until March 31, 2026.

  • Full refunds: Travelers can request a complete refund for flights scheduled up to March 10.

  • Transit assistance: Gulf Air has already assisted more than 400 transit passengers, providing accommodation, meals, and alternative travel arrangements.

Passengers have been advised not to go to the airport unless they hold a confirmed ticket for a specific repatriation flight.

Bookings can be managed through the airline’s mobile platform, the Gulf Air mobile app, or by contacting the airline’s global customer service center at +973 17373737.
