US Startup Opens Early Deposits for Conceptual Luxury Hotel Stay on the Moon
A U.S.-based startup, Galactic Resource Utilization Space (GRU Space), has announced that it is accepting early deposits for what it claims could become the world’s first permanent luxury hotel on the Moon. While the idea has generated global attention, the company has emphasized that the project remains conceptual and that deposits do not guarantee confirmed bookings.
GRU Space is currently offering reservation deposits ranging from $250,000 to $1 million (approximately ₹2 crore to ₹8 crore). These payments are intended to secure early interest in future lunar stays, with construction tentatively planned to begin around 2029 and an operational target of 2032, subject to technological and regulatory progress.
According to the company, the proposed lunar hotel would focus on sustainable space tourism, providing guests with unique experiences such as moonwalks, low-gravity recreational activities, and driving lunar vehicles. The vision aligns with long-term goals of developing human infrastructure beyond Earth.
However, GRU Space has clarified that the deposits represent only a fraction of the eventual cost. The total price of a lunar visit including astronaut-style training, space travel, accommodation, and safety measures is expected to reach several million dollars per guest.
Industry experts caution that while interest in space tourism is growing, projects of this scale face significant technical, financial, and regulatory challenges. For now, GRU Space’s lunar hotel remains an ambitious concept, with early deposits serving as expressions of interest rather than confirmed reservations.
