Dubai Metro Commuters Warned: Fines for Sitting in Non-Passenger Areas or Sleeping

Sitting on the Floor or Napping on Dubai Metro? Fines Await, Warns RTA

Dubai Metro commuters are being reminded to stay alert and follow public etiquette, as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) tightens enforcement on behaviors that disrupt passenger flow and comfort. Actions such as sitting in non-passenger areas including the intersections between compartments or sleeping on the Metro can now lead to fines starting from Dh100.

The renewed warning comes after a commuter’s social media post highlighted frequent congestion in key walkway areas, particularly on the Red Line. The post suggested the RTA consider placing “Do Not Sit Here” stickers or issue fines for those blocking access between train compartments during peak hours. In response, the RTA emphasized that such behavior is already prohibited under public transport regulations and urged riders to help maintain a smooth, respectful travel experience for all.

Sleeping, sprawling across seats, or occupying areas not designated for sitting isn’t just inconsiderate it can delay movement and even pose safety hazards, especially during busy periods. The RTA reiterated its commitment to maintaining the Dubai Metro as a model of efficient, world-class public transportation, and urged all riders to stay mindful of others and follow the rules while commuting.
