Dubai Metro Blue Line Reaches 12% Completion, On Track for 2029 Launch

Construction of the Dubai Metro Blue Line has reached 12 per cent completion, with more than 3,500 workers currently deployed across 12 active construction sites, as the project remains firmly on track for its planned 2029 launch.

The progress update was shared following a meeting of the Dubai Metro Blue Line Forum, chaired by Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The session was held at the project’s tunnel rings production factory in International City and brought together senior representatives from the project consortium, including MAPA, Limak and CRRC Hong Kong.

Officials confirmed that the project has surpassed 4.6 million working hours, reflecting the scale and pace of construction. To support delivery timelines and enhance efficiency, the RTA has established two dedicated ready-mix concrete batching plants and two precast production facilities in Al Ruwayyah 3 and International City.

According to the RTA, the on-site production facilities allow for tighter quality control and faster execution. The Al Ruwayyah 3 plant currently produces 200 cubic metres of ready-mix concrete and up to 12 viaduct segments per day, while the International City facility delivers 120 cubic metres of concrete and 12 tunnel rings daily.

Spanning 30 kilometres and comprising 14 stations, the Blue Line will serve as a vital connection between Dubai’s existing Red and Green Metro Lines. The project is a key pillar of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, supporting urban expansion and serving areas expected to accommodate up to one million residents by 2040.

Once operational, the Blue Line will provide a 20-minute direct journey to Dubai International Airport, significantly enhancing connectivity across the city. From an economic perspective, the RTA expects the project to drive a 25 per cent increase in property values near stations and reduce traffic congestion on key corridors by around 20 per cent.

Construction activity is set to accelerate over the next year, with the RTA forecasting 30 per cent completion by the end of 2026. The Dubai Metro Blue Line is scheduled to officially open to the public on 9 September 2029, marking another major milestone in the emirate’s transport and urban development journey.
