China Unveils World’s First 10G Broadband Network in Hebei, Setting a Global Benchmark

China has officially launched the world’s first 10G broadband network in Sunan County, Hebei Province, marking a major leap in global telecommunications. Developed jointly by Huawei and China Unicom, the next-generation system delivers download speeds of up to 9,834 Mbps, upload speeds of 1,008 Mbps, and latency as low as 3 milliseconds, made possible through cutting-edge 50G PON technology.

The ultra-high-speed network significantly enhances performance for cloud computing, VR and AR applications, 8K streaming, and advanced smart home systems. To illustrate the impact, a 20 GB 4K movie which typically requires 7 to 10 minutes to download on a 1 Gbps connection can now be downloaded in under 20 seconds.

With this rollout, China moves ahead of technologically competitive nations such as the UAE and Qatar in next-generation broadband deployment. The initiative is expected to deliver major benefits across key sectors, including healthcare, education, and agriculture, accelerating the country’s digital transformation and global tech leadership.
