Bahrain’s underground tattoo industry may soon face stricter legal challenges as municipal officials call for new legislation aimed at curbing illegal tattoo parlours. Authorities have expressed growing concern over the unregulated nature of these establishments, which are believed to be expanding in number across the kingdom.
Officials argue that these studios pose a serious public health risk due to the lack of hygiene standards and professional oversight. There are also concerns that the practice, often done in secret and outside the law, clashes with Bahrain’s cultural and social values.
The proposed legislation is expected to introduce tougher penalties and clearer guidelines for legal operations, with the ultimate goal of protecting both citizens and the integrity of public health standards.
As the government moves toward stricter enforcement, residents are being urged to avoid unlicensed tattoo services and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
