Bahrain Tightens Electric Scooter Regulations to Boost Road Safety

The General Directorate of Traffic in Bahrain has announced a renewed push to enforce regulations on the use of electric scooters, as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing road safety across the Kingdom.

Authorities have issued a clear reminder that electric scooters are strictly prohibited from being used on main roads, vehicle lanes, and road shoulders. The Traffic Directorate warned that such practices pose serious risks to both riders and other road users, contributing to traffic disruptions and increasing the potential for accidents.

The Directorate stated that riders must use designated areas for scooter operation and adhere to traffic guidelines at all times. This effort will be supported by awareness campaigns, targeted education programs, and intensified enforcement, as officials work to curb unsafe behavior and ensure that electric scooters are used responsibly.

As micromobility options like e-scooters gain popularity across urban centers in the GCC, Bahrain is seeking to strike a balance between innovation and safety ensuring that modern transport solutions do not compromise the well-being of the public.
