Ashneer Grover’s BharatPe Exit: A Controversial Chapter Comes to a Close

Ashneer Grover (born June 14, 1982) is an Indian entrepreneur, investor, and former co-founder and Managing Director of the fintech company BharatPe. He is also known as an investor on the reality television show Shark Tank India.
Born and raised in Delhi, Ashneer’s father was a Chartered Accountant and his mother a teacher. He completed his elementary education in Delhi before earning a B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. During 2002-2003, he participated in a student exchange program at INSA Lyon University in France, followed by an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad in 2006.
Before co-founding BharatPe in 2018 alongside Shashvat Nakrani and Bhavik Koladiya, Ashneer worked with notable companies including Kotak Investment Bank, Grofers, PC Jeweller Ltd, and American Express. His wife, Madhuri Jain Grover, also an entrepreneur, played a key role at BharatPe heading procurement, admin, and control functions since the company’s inception.
In February 2022, Ashneer resigned as Managing Director and board director of BharatPe following the circulation of a PwC audit report concerning his conduct, which the company’s board stated could lead to further action.
Beyond fintech, Ashneer is the author of the book “Doglapan: The Hard Truth About Life and Start-Ups”, with plans for a movie adaptation and a sequel titled “Doglapan 2.0” underway. He is also set to host a new reality show called Rise and Fall on MX Player, which features 16 prominent individuals living in a divided house with evolving social dynamics, adapted from a British format.
As of 2025, Ashneer Grover’s estimated net worth stands at approximately ₹900 crore (around $108 million USD), primarily accrued from his stake in BharatPe, valued at ₹20,100 crore and other business ventures.
