The National Emergency Management Committee of Bahrain has confirmed the operational readiness of Phase 2 civil emergency shelters in the Muharraq Governorate. This step marks a crucial advancement in the Kingdom’s commitment to civil protection and disaster preparedness.
With a total capacity to accommodate 6,585 residents, Phase 2 shelters are now fully equipped and on standby to support citizens in the event of a large-scale emergency, should Phase 1 shelters reach capacity or require escalation.
The designated Phase 2 shelters in Muharraq include:
-

-
Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman Institute of Technology – Capacity: 1,189
-
Arad Primary & Intermediate School for Boys – Capacity: 781
-
Busaiteen Intermediate School for Girls – Capacity: 815
-
Raqiya Primary School for Girls – Capacity: 912
-
Central Market Basement – Capacity: 750

These locations were strategically selected for their accessibility, structural resilience, and proximity to major residential zones.
Officials have emphasized that the readiness of these shelters is part of a broader national strategy to ensure public safety during emergencies such as natural disasters, industrial accidents, or regional threats. Each shelter is equipped with essential supplies, basic medical services, and coordinated support teams to assist evacuees.
Residents are advised to stay informed through official channels and follow instructions issued by civil defense and emergency services. Preparedness materials and shelter maps will be made available both online and in community centers throughout the governorate.
This initiative forms part of Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its civil emergency response framework and ensure that all governorates are equipped to handle potential crises efficiently and effectively.
