UAE Emerges as One of the World’s Most Air-Connected Aviation Hubs
The United Arab Emirates has reinforced its position as one of the most air-connected countries in the world, accounting for nearly 2.3 per cent of total global international passenger traffic, according to Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Civil Aviation Authority.
Bin Touq made the remarks during his participation in a ministerial session at the “Wings of India 2026” Conference, currently being held in Hyderabad, India, with the participation of ministers and senior government officials from across the globe.
He highlighted that the civil aviation sector plays a pivotal role in driving economic and tourism growth, facilitating global trade, and strengthening connectivity between countries and peoples, particularly amid rapid regional and international developments in the aviation industry.
Guided by the UAE’s leadership vision, Bin Touq noted that the country has successfully consolidated its status as a leading global aviation hub. This has been supported by one of the world’s most advanced logistics infrastructures and a fully integrated ecosystem that brings together aviation, transport, and travel services, positioning the UAE as a vital gateway between East and West.
He further explained that the UAE accounts for 32.2 per cent of international passenger traffic at the regional level, reflecting a high degree of air connectivity that places the country among the most globally connected nations in air transport.
Bin Touq stressed that this strong foundation enables the UAE to advance towards building a smarter and more sustainable aviation sector. He pointed to ongoing efforts focused on advanced technologies, accelerated digital transformation, innovation, emissions reduction, and improved operational efficiency, in line with global sustainability goals.
The minister also underscored the UAE’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and forging strategic partnerships to enhance future readiness in the aviation sector and ensure sustainable, long-term growth amid evolving travel and transport patterns.
Praising UAE–India relations, Bin Touq described the partnership as a successful strategic model that supports comprehensive and sustainable growth, particularly across the new economy, aviation, and tourism sectors. He emphasised the importance of continued coordination to boost travel movement, economic exchange, and joint collaboration opportunities.
The ministerial session served as a high-level platform for dialogue on the future of global aviation, exploring ways to enhance international integration and develop a resilient, future-ready aviation industry that balances economic growth with sustainability.
