UAE set to experience coldest winter stretch between January 10 and 22

Dubai and the wider UAE are expected to experience the coldest period of the winter season between January 10 and January 22, 2026, according to weather forecasts and long-observed regional patterns.

This time of year is traditionally referred to as “Dur Al Sittin” in local folklore, a period historically associated with the chilliest days and nights across the country.

While daytime temperatures in coastal cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi are forecast to remain relatively mild at around 24 to 25°C, conditions will feel noticeably colder during early mornings and nights.

In inland and desert regions, temperatures could drop to 5°C or lower, particularly during the coldest nights. Some areas may experience frost, a rare but known phenomenon during peak winter conditions.

The drop in temperatures is being driven by fresh northwesterly winds linked to a high-pressure system extending from Siberia, which is expected to sweep across the UAE. These winds will enhance the windchill effect, making conditions feel colder than actual temperatures suggest.

Residents can also expect a higher likelihood of mist and fog, especially in inland areas during the early morning hours. Reduced visibility may pose challenges for commuters and motorists during this period.

Safety and weather advice

Authorities recommend that residents dress in layers and ensure warm clothing is available, particularly for outdoor activities during early mornings and evenings. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously during fog-prone hours and allow extra travel time.

For the latest updates and official advisories, residents should continue to monitor forecasts issued by the UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
