Strong Competition Marks Opening Round of Khalid bin Hamad Golden Generation Cycling League
The first round of the Khalid bin Hamad Golden Generation Cycling League for the 2025–2026 sports season got underway on Friday morning at the Nasser bin Hamad Cycling Track in Sakhir, in the presence of Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Cycling Association.
The opening round saw the participation of 40 riders from the under-19 youth and under-17 junior categories. The races were marked by strong competition under winter conditions, reflecting the promising technical level of the cyclists and attracting notable spectator interest.
In the youth individual race over a distance of 45 kilometres, Hassan Aqeel of the Bahrain Giant team claimed first place with a time of 1:06:27. He was followed by Abdulaziz Al Hamri of Elite Academy in second place at 1:06:28, while Humood Al Farhan, also of Elite Academy, finished third at 1:06:29.
The juniors’ individual race, covering a distance of 30 kilometres, was won by Mohammed Ali Juma of Elite Academy, who clocked a time of 1:08:56. Sayed Abdullah Ali of Bahrain Giant secured second place with 1:09:00, while Isa Al Khasham of Elite Academy finished third at 1:09:01.
At the team level, Elite Academy topped the youth category standings with 10 points, followed by MMM Academy in second place with six points. Elite Academy also led the juniors’ category with 10 points, while Bahrain Giant ranked second with six points.
The competitions were officiated by a refereeing panel comprising Sayed Murtadha, Hussain Mansoor, and Jamal Shaheen, with support from referee Adel Marhoon and a number of young officials. Organisational efforts were coordinated with board members, team managers, and coaches, alongside traffic police, community police, and ambulance teams, ensuring the smooth and safe conduct of the opening round.
