Sharjah allocates land for permanent Sharjah International Book Fair headquarters and new exhibition centre

Sharjah has taken a major step toward strengthening its position as a global cultural and knowledge hub with the allocation of land for a permanent headquarters of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), alongside a new conferences and exhibitions center.

The announcement was made on Monday by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, during his radio and television program Direct Line on the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan confirmed that the site for the landmark project is located near the Emirates–Al Dhaid–Khorfakkan road network, a strategically important corridor that connects Sharjah’s key urban areas with major logistical and transport routes. The location is expected to enhance accessibility for local, regional, and international visitors while supporting large-scale cultural and commercial events.

According to the Ruler of Sharjah, the land was purchased at a cost of Dh146 million, reflecting the emirate’s long-term commitment to cultural infrastructure and intellectual development. Construction of the permanent headquarters and the exhibition complex is scheduled to begin immediately.

The project is expected to take two years to complete, with an estimated construction cost of Dh500 million. Once completed, the new complex will provide a dedicated, purpose-built venue for the Sharjah International Book Fair, which is regarded as one of the world’s leading literary and publishing events.

The permanent headquarters is also expected to support year-round cultural programming, international conferences, exhibitions, and knowledge-driven initiatives, reinforcing Sharjah’s reputation as the cultural capital of the Arab world.

The development marks a significant milestone in the emirate’s cultural vision, ensuring that the Sharjah International Book Fair continues to grow in scale, influence, and global reach for decades to come.
