Gujarat to Host 70th Filmfare Awards 2025 in October: A Bold Step Toward Swadeshi and Atmanirbharta in Cinema

Filmmaking in Gujarat Will Accelerate the Principles of Swadeshi and Atmanirbharta – Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel

Gandhinagar, 28 August 2025 In a landmark move that reaffirms Gujarat’s emergence as a hub for cinema and tourism, the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TCGL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Worldwide Media Pvt. Ltd. to host the 70th Filmfare Awards 2025. The agreement was formalized in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, who emphasized that filmmaking in Gujarat will accelerate the principles of Swadeshi (indigenous production) and Atmanirbharta (self-reliance), echoing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of “Vocal for Local.”

The MoU signing ceremony took place in Gandhinagar and featured the unveiling of the iconic Filmfare “Black Lady” trophy by Chief Minister Patel. Dignitaries present at the event included Tourism Minister Shri Mulubhai Bera, Minister of State Shri Bhikhusinh Parmar, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM Shri M.K. Das, Tourism Secretary Shri Rajender Kumar, MD of TCGL Shri Prabhav Joshi, MD of the Times Group Shri Vineet Jain, Worldwide Media CEO Shri Rohit Gopakumar, filmmaker Karan Johar, and actor Vikrant Massey.

This will mark the second consecutive year that Gujarat hosts the prestigious Filmfare Awards, following the successful 69th edition held at GIFT City. According to CM Patel, Gujarat’s progressive Cinematic Tourism Policy (2022) and Gujarat Filming Incentive Scheme have laid a strong foundation for transforming the state into a destination of choice for filmmakers. The policy offers various benefits, including single-window clearances, tax incentives, and infrastructure support, all designed to promote the growth of cinematic tourism.

The Chief Minister asserted that hosting the Filmfare Awards will not only amplify Gujarat’s visibility on the global cultural map but also generate employment and stimulate the local economy. He further highlighted that the event will promote local products, crafts, and heritage, thereby strengthening the spirit of Swadeshi. “Entertainment has now become the fifth pillar of Gujarat’s identity alongside our ancient, spiritual, artistic, and modern contributions,” said Patel, referring to Gujarat’s evolution into a vibrant, all-rounded cultural destination.

Key tourist locations such as the White Desert of Kachchh, Sabarmati Ashram, Somnath, Dwarka, Gir National Park, the Statue of Unity, and Shivrajpur Beach are expected to gain global recognition through the international media attention the Filmfare Awards will draw. The state government has committed to enhancing infrastructure, transportation, and hospitality services in preparation for the event, which will be held in October 2025.

Tourism Secretary Shri Rajender Kumar called this a proud moment for the state, citing past mega-events like the ICC World Cup, international concerts, and now back-to-back Filmfare Awards, as indicators of Gujarat’s readiness to host large-scale cultural events. Worldwide Media CEO Shri Rohit Gopakumar lauded Gujarat for its balanced identity, stating that the entertainment sector is now cementing itself as a defining feature of the state's growth narrative.

Filmmaker Karan Johar, who attended last year’s Filmfare in Gujarat, expressed gratitude for the state’s continued support of the film industry. Actor Vikrant Massey, who won his first Filmfare award in Gujarat, echoed similar sentiments, calling the state his “land of culture” and expressing personal pride in being part of the celebration again.

The event signifies a milestone not just for the entertainment sector but for Gujarat’s broader strategy of aligning cultural heritage with economic development. With cinematic tourism being actively promoted and infrastructure rapidly developing, Gujarat is positioning itself as India’s next major destination for entertainment, investment, and global recognition.
