Bahrain to increase cost-of-living support for low-income families from January 2026
Following royal directives, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, has ordered an increase in financial support for low-income families, effective January 2026. The move is aimed at improving living standards and strengthening social welfare support for Bahraini citizens.
Under the revised framework, the Ministry of Social Development will distribute updated monthly cost-of-living allowances based on the primary income earner’s salary. Families earning less than BHD 300 per month will receive BHD 130, while those earning between BHD 301 and BHD 700 will receive BHD 97. Families with a monthly income ranging from BHD 701 to BHD 1,000 will receive BHD 75.
The increase is designed to provide targeted financial assistance to households most affected by economic adjustments and rising living costs, ensuring that support reaches those who need it most.
In addition to direct financial aid, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens from rising utility costs. Electricity and water tariffs will remain unchanged for the first and second consumption bands for citizens’ primary residences, offering continued relief on essential services.
The decision forms part of a broader national strategy to enhance social stability and economic opportunity. It aligns with Bahrain’s employment objectives, including the goal of providing three job opportunities for every registered job seeker by the end of 2025.
The latest measures reflect Bahrain’s continued focus on inclusive growth, social protection, and long-term economic resilience. Citizens are encouraged to follow official announcements through the Bahrain Prime Minister’s Office for further updates.
