Dubai Introduces AI-Powered Lifeguard System to Boost Beach Safety
Dubai is enhancing public beach safety by deploying an AI-powered monitoring system that integrates smart cameras, sensors, and real-time data analytics to support lifeguards and speed up emergency response. The new system monitors swimmer movements, identifies unsafe behaviour, and detects signs of distress within seconds, alerting lifeguards and supervisors immediately.
The technology analyses beach and sea conditions continuously, enabling rescue teams to identify high-risk zones, track weather changes, and optimise safety operations. While AI supports lifeguards, it does not replace them; instead, it enhances their ability to respond rapidly and efficiently, reducing rescue response times and improving overall safety for visitors.
The smart system also includes digital awareness tools along the shoreline, keeping beachgoers informed about sea conditions, safety guidelines, and recommended precautions. Central control rooms monitor activity around the clock, using operational data to refine safety strategies, identify recurring risks, and support data-driven decision-making.
This initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to integrating technology into public services, combining innovation and human expertise to create safer, smarter recreational spaces.
